This calculator converts non-numerical results such as letter grades (e.g. A, B, C, D, E) or description grades (e.g. Excellent, Very Good, Good, Pass, Fail) or Class of Honours (First Class, Second Class, Third Class) into a percentage scaled to the UNSW standard average mark out of 100 with a pass mark of 50.

The calculator requires you to translate your grades to a mark range, and identify which grade is the minimum passing grade. This information can usually be found in the Key to Grades section on the back of your official transcript.

If your transcript contains numerical grades (marks, point systems or a GPA), you should use the Numerical mark calculator instead.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

  1. Please enter the relevant grade names into the "Grade name" boxes below – e.g. A, B, C, D etc. Only use as many rows as required.
  2. Then enter the mark ranges that relate to each grade – e.g. A = 85 to 100 etc.
  3. Then enter the count of each grade type in the "count of grades" boxes – e.g. 4 A's, 5 B's etc.
  4. Then enter the minimum passing grade required to graduate from the degree – e.g. "E"
  5. Finally, press the "Calculate Entry Mark" button and if the average shown is above the relevant cut-off (or within 5% of the cut-off), check any other entry requirements and submit an application if you are eligible.

The score generated by this calculator is provided as a guide only and does not guarantee any offer to study at UNSW. All applicants must also meet any additional entry criteria to be eligible for a particular program, and meet UNSW's English language requirements.
